5 records Ronaldo can still break/make in 2021

CR7 is in the twilight of his career now – but that doesn’t mean he can’t keep on adding more stars to his star-studded CV.

Cristiano Ronaldo developed a taste for records when he was still in the budding stages of his career, becoming the then most expensive teenager in English football history upon making a £12.24 million (€14.27m) move from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United back in 2003.

Fast forwards 18 years, and records and Ronaldo go hand in hand. He has become almost synonymous with breaking and making new records.

The 36-year-old is, or supposed to be, in the twilight of his career now – but that doesn’t mean he can’t keep on adding more stars to his star-studded CV.

Here are five records the Juventus and Portugal talisman can achieve in the remainder of 2021:

1. First Portuguese to claim the Capocannoniere

Ronaldo has finished as the league’s leading goalscorer multiple times in his career. He won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2007/08 while at Manchester United and won La Liga’s Pichichi Trophy three times during his nine-year spell at Real Madrid.

He came close to getting his hands on Serie A’s Capocannoniere in 2019/20 but lost out to Lazio striker Ciro Immobile in the end.

CR7 is leading the Capocannoniere race this season with 20 goals in 22 matches and should he go on and win the award, he will become the first Portuguese player to do so.

2. Fastest to reach Juventus century

An aging Ronaldo might have lost his speed and dribbling ability but he remains one of the most lethal finishers in the world.

His goal tally for Juventus serves as a testament to the aforementioned statement: an incredible 92 goals in 121 matches in total so far.

It will not take the five-time Ballon d’Or winner long to hit triple digits for the Italian giants. And should he score eight goals in his next two games – which is a big ask even for Ronaldo – he will become the quickest player to reach a century of goals for Juventus.

Omar Sivori currently holds that record, having scored 100 goals in 124 games.

3. First to score in five separate European tournaments

An 18-year-old Ronaldo was able to find the net in his first European championship back in 2004.

The forward continued to find the net in the subsequent editions of the competition and became the first player in history to score in four different EURO tournaments.

Should he score in this summer’s edition of the competition, CR7 will become the first player ever to score a goal in five separate EURO tournaments.

4. European Championship all-time top-scorer

The Portugal captain is already the top-scorer in EURO qualifiers.

Ronaldo is currently tied with Michel Platini as the joint top-scorer of the UEFA EURO with nine goals. He will look to make that record his own in EURO 2020.

5. International football all-time top-scorer

Ronaldo is the first European player to hit 100 international goals. He is already the Europe’s leading international goalscorer with 102 strikes in 168 appearances.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Sporting man needs only eight more goals to become international football’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Iran legend Ali Daei currently holds that record, with 109 goals in 149 games.
